Tony Ferguson has lost his last five games in a row, but it hasn't dampened his spirits. Supposedly, he needed those defeats because he has finally found himself and can go on a title hunt.
"El Cucuy" used to be the bane of the UFC's lightweight division, where he also had a streak of twelve straight wins. To his misfortune, however, he didn't get to the regular championship belt, only a temporary one when he defeated Kevin Lee in October 2017.
After that, Ferguson added two more wins to his account, after which came a cruel stoppage in the form of Justin Gaethje. This opponent started Tony's losing streak that continues to this day. Saturday night will reveal whether it will continue or finally be broken.
"I'll be honest with you guys, I kind of needed those losses. I lost myself in myself, I had to put some things in order, but I'm here, I'm in shape," said the legendary El Cucuy at the pre-match press conference.
"I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life right now. I haven't hit my peak yet, which is kind of crazy, but I can feel it now. I get out of bed early in the morning. I'm training and I feel like I've never felt before. I really feel like this is my moment!" He persuaded fans not to give up on him just yet.
"I'll quit when I want to quit! You can put that talk away," he told reporters. "I'll do what I have to do to get where I want to get. I've got five fights in my head and then the championship and then I'll just wrap it up!" presented his fight plan for the rest of his career.
